2-Day Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) | 20 & 21 January 2022
January 20 - 9:30 am - January 21 - 5:00 pm$549.00
ASIST is the most widely used suicide intervention model in the world.
In this two day face to face interactive workshop, participants will learn how to:
- Reflect on how their attitudes and beliefs about suicide affect their intervention role.
- Discuss suicide with a person thinking about suicide clearly and directly.
- Build a collaborative approach to intervention focused on safe outcomes.
- Review immediate suicide risk and develop appropriate safe plans.
- Recognise that suicide prevention is broader than suicide first aid and includes life promotion and caregivers’ self-care.
Developed in 1983 and regularly updated to reflect improvements in knowledge and practice, ASIST is the world’s leading suicide intervention workshop, with over 120,000 participants attending each year.
Studies prove that the ASIST method helps reduce suicidal feelings for those at risk. People count on ASIST to save and change lives. That is why this program is tested, proven, and evidence-based. With over 50 peer-reviewed studies and government reports validating the impact of ASIST, this is the most robust evidence base in the suicide prevention training field.
Suicide is preventable. Anyone can make a difference.
ASIST empowers participants with the knowledge and skills to intervene and help a person at risk of suicide stay safe.
- Presentations and guidance from two LivingWorks registered trainers
- A scientifically proven intervention model
- Powerful audiovisual learning aids
- Group discussions
- Skills practice and development
- A balance of challenge and safety
All course materials will be provided within the course fee. An Accredited Certificate will be provided upon full participation in the two-day ASIST program.
Who should attend ASIST?
Professionals and members of the community at large have all found great value in ASIST over the years.
Many professionals attend ASIST because suicide intervention skills are essential for their work. In many organisations, ASIST is a mandatory component of training. Nurses, physicians, mental health professionals, pharmacists, teachers, counsellors, youth workers, police, first responders, correctional staff, school support staff, clergy, and volunteers have all found that ASIST complements their existing training and knowledge.
Other people attend simply because they want to help someone in need, in much the same way they might learn CPR. Because the training is comprehensive and does not rely on prior qualifications, they can have the same meaningful experience as a professional caregiver.
Ultimately, ASIST is founded on the principle that everyone can make a difference in preventing suicide. The more people in the community who have suicide intervention training, the more likely they will identify someone at risk and intervene to keep them safe.
